Measurement and Processing of Road Irregularity for Surface Generation and Tyre Dynamics Simulation in NVH Context

Abstract Nowadays, finite element tyre models are often used to perform vehicle NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) simulations. To account for the specific operating conditions, a road surface must be properly included in model. This paper deals with methodology experimentally evaluate and process irregularity measurements, so as generate input. These surfaces simulate tyre/road interaction at footprint, which is modelled contact models. For this reason, linear profile of not suitable these simulations whole considered. Starting from measurements taken through test equipment specifically designed carry laser sensors scan profiles, Power Spectral Density (PSD) track estimated then interpolated considering piecewise functions. Finally, model starting measured PSD developed, discussed validated.
